For the Cost of an Iphone, A Wind Turbine Can Power An Entire House

There is no denying that electricity is the lifeline of the modern 21st century way of life. Nothing nowadays can function without a steady supply of electrical power. But at the same time, it is quite an expensive form of energy. The good news, however, is that two Indian brothers have recently come up with a way to solve the world’s never-ending energy crisis. It is in the form of an inexpensive wind turbine that can generate enough electricity to power a home for several decades. The innovation, dubbed as one of the first most practical renewable energy solutions for developing countries, costs around $750 only. This is about the same amount of money one would dish out for the latest iPhone model.

This piece of technology developed by Anoop and Arun George can generate approximately 3 to 5kWh every day by harnessing the wind’s potential energy. By all means and standards, this should be more than enough power to run a small-to-medium household. It is a product of a startup ( Avant Garde Innovations ) that was founded by the two brothers a few years ago. The company’s pilot project was launched early last year ( 2015 ) at a church in Thiruvananthapuram. Since then, it has caused ripples in many parts of India and Asia as more people are beginning to appreciate its potential.
Statistically, India is the sixth largest and most populous energy consumer in the world. This translates to around 3.4% of the total global energy consumption and it ranks fourth in terms of global installed wind power capacity, after China, the US, and Germany according to the Global Wind Energy Council.
