Whether or not you like this pungent veggie, onions have been popping up all over the Internet lately. No, it’s not because it’s the world’s favorite vegetable. Turns out, you can do more with the almighty onion than we previously thought.
Apparently, if you put an onion in a sick person’s room, the onion will sort of absorb the illness. Sometimes, only a few hours later, the person is all better.

This actually is not even close to being a new idea. Back in the early 1900s, people used onions to successfully fight off the plague, and Ayurvedic medicine has been using an onion poultice for the chest of feet, curing coughs, fevers, flu as well as inflammation of the joints and . Even the Amish in North American whose traditions date back the to 16th century, commonly place onion in their homes during winter flu season and place cut onions in the room of a sick person to naturally and quickly relieve their symptoms.

It’s said that white onions work the best, preferably with the Latin name Allium Cepa, while yellow onions would be the next best thing.
To prevent the flu and other viruses, peel an onion and leave it around the home. Many do this during flu season and no one ends up sick! Just make sure you replace the onion every 3 months.
In the unfortunate event of someone falling ill with a cough, flu, cold, or fever, immediately place a peeled white onion that’s cut in half into a bowl in their room. By cutting the onion in half, you’ll get the most out of the ‘healing power’ if its odor.
Cut onions can also be used to eliminate mold smells in a closet, drawer, or room.



However, make sure you never leave a cut onion open in the fridge to eat later. As soon as an onion is cut, it begins to absorb bacteria. Hence it’s healing powers. You’ll want to be sure to keep the onion in a sealed container so it’s safe to be eaten, or you can always just cut off what you need and put the rest in the basement to absorb any bad smells.
The most interesting onion remedy, however, is the Sock Onion. This modern-day version involved cutting the white onion in half and placing one half in the bottom of each sock so that the onion is right up next to the skin on the bottom of your foot. The sock will keep the onion in place overnight. This remedy is perfect for flu and fevers.
