How to Make the Best Candy Treat Using Crackers

If you’re looking for a great dessert that isn’t too heavy, you’re probably thinking about something that’s the perfect combination between salty and sweet. It’s similar to how a banana or apple with peanut butter just seems to go together perfectly.

On her YouTube channel, Lori Nolan is sharing an easy and delicious recipe she has made time and time again for the past 20 years. As she’s mastered and perfected the recipe, she now shows you how to make cracker candy.

Originally inspired by the treat when her mom and she tasted something delicious at a party, cracker candy has become perfect for holidays and family get-togethers. It’s even fantastic as a treat during movies with your loved ones, or any other occasion.

“I enjoy making it. I can make umpteen batches in a night and be up making candy,” says Nolan. “I think over the years that I’ve made this cracker candy, my family, they love it, and it means Christmas for them.”

Here’s what you’ll need:
A package of Saltine crackers
1 cup butter
2 Tablespoons brown sugar
1 bag of chocolate candy melts
Aluminum foil

Begin by preheating the oven to 350°F. Cover a baking sheet with aluminum foil and lay out a single layer of crackers directly onto the foil.

Melt the butter in a sauce pan on low heat before pouring in the brown sugar. Then, turn the heat up to medium. Stir until the mixture starts to boil. Allow it to boil for 3 minutes.
Next, pour the sweet mixture over the crackers using a spatula to spread the caramel sauce evenly. Put it in the oven to bake for about 5 minutes.

After removing the pan from the oven, pour the bag of candy melts on top, spreading them evenly across the crackers. Cover the hot pan with aluminum foil for about 3 minutes or until to chocolate melts. If you’d like, you can add nuts to top it off.

“What was intriguing to us they very first time we had it, is that it’s made with Saltine crackers,” explains Nolan. “The cracker layer ends up somewhere on the bottom and it’s salty and crispy, versus the brown sugar and butter. So the crispy layer of the cracker is unique.”
