Do you know what your egg yolks are telling you?

There really is no telling what is going to come out of a cracked egg. Obviously, we all hope it’s not something unexpected, but we often ignore the color of the contents of a freshly cracked egg. Of course, we expect it to be a yellow color. If it weren’t, there would be something very wrong with that picture. However, the color of your egg yolks may be telling you something more than you thought.
YouTuber bevyh1 show us in the below video just how much the color of an egg’s yolk varies based on the eggs origins, and how important this may be for your overall health. As it turns out, the color of an egg yolk is directly related to the nutrients that particular hen was fed, which dictates what you’re putting into your own body as well.
According to the Broad Ripple Farmers Market, the darker the egg yolk is, the more nutrients it contains, which is most likely the result of a healthier diet of corn and grain found in free-range hens. Unfortunately, most of the eggs sold in supermarkets come from factory farms that limit the hens diet dramatically, which in turn limits outs as well. Although the lighter yolks are not harmful by any means, they are less effective at delivering the nutrients you could be ingesting.
SFGate even has a story that explains that free-range hens also produce eggs that contain more vitamin A, perfect for promoting bone and eye strength; vitamin E, promoting circulation and preventing oxidation; and omega-3 fatty acids, promoting a lower cholesterol and blood pressure. Even better, free-range eggs also don’t contain as much saturated fat and cholesterol than eggs that come from a factory farm, which makes them much better for your diet.
The only real downside here is that free-range eggs cost a little bit more, but may be a completely necessary expense when it comes to your health, right?
